Erin Winters is a senior Broadcast Journalism major and Graphic Design minor hailing from Detroit, MI. She is currently a scholar in the Emma Bowen Foundation, a scholarship program for minorities interested in media. Through the Emma Bowen foundation, she was granted a 4-year fellowship at FOX 2 News in Detroit, where she's gained experiences in writing, producing, and reporting for the news. Her work has been broadcasted on air, and she's been granted the opportunity to report several stories for FOX 2 News. She also interned at WTTG Fox 5 News in Washington, DC as the Associate Investigative Producer, where she practiced long-term investigative storytelling.
This blog was created to showcase Erin's extensive work throughout her Broadcast Journalism II course, a junior level course at Howard University. The class was extensive, requiring her to produce, write and edit news and feature packages. Her writing skills have tremendously grown since the beginning of this course.
Spring 2015 semester, Erin took a big leap of faith and traveled to Cape Town, South Africa to study abroad. She studied at University of Cape Town, the most rigorous university in Africa. This experience has taught her the true meaning of gratitude, and enhanced her passions for helping people around the world. Erin is also very involved around campus as an on-air personality for the campus radio station, a member of the Howard University Student Association, the Howard University Association of Black Journalists, a contributing writer for The Hilltop Newspaper, and a member of Endustry Power Players. She was recently received a Hearst Journalism Award for a radio package she did during the 2014 Midterm Elections. news Erin has a strong work ethic, is a team player, who values growth. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, hanging out with family and friends, and trying new foods!
